Fire destroys popular Washington County pizza shop

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Fire broke out in a popular restaurant along South Main Street in Washington Sunday night, according to officials.

The blaze started just before midnight at Peppino’s restaurant, said authorities.

Firefighters said when they arrived on the scene, the ceiling collapsed on the bar and fire destroyed most of the sports memorabilia that filled the walls.

WPXI's Cara Sapida spoke to the owner of Peppino's, Tony Nicolella, who said he has plans to rebuild.

“It's heartbreaking.  We do a lot of work around here on a lot buildings, fire does a lot of bad things and it's heartbreaking. No one got hurt and we will make it pretty again,” said Nicolella.

The family-owned restaurant has been in Washington for 28-years.

City firefighters, along with crews from North Strabane and Peters township, were on the scene for about 2 1/2 hours.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, said officials.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
