Fire rips through Butler Co. business

WINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A fire ripped through a Butler County bar and restaurant Sunday afternoon.

The Star Grill on Marwood Road in Winfield Township became engulfed by flames about 12 p.m.

Dana Mullen is a manager at the Star Grill. Her parents have owned and operated it for nearly two decades.

"It's devastation. I mean, my parents have spent so much time here building it and making it what it is," said Mullen. "It's definitely going to be a big change for this community not to have it here."

Tenants of an apartment above the business were doing laundry downstairs when they saw smoke and called 911.

"With the metal roof, and false ceilings and different walls, it was difficult for us to contain," said Fire Chief John Hartman.

A lack of fire hydrants in the area also presented a challenge. Tanker trucks were brought in to supply water to fight the blaze.

No one was injured. Channel 11's Lori Houy reported that firefighters saved a cat from the apartment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
