Firefighters called to 2 New Castle house fires

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Fire crews were called to two fires in New Castle Friday night.

The first fire broke out at a vacant house on Old Long Avenue about 10:30 p.m. Investigators said the flames started on a back porch of the house.

While crews worked to put out the flames at the Old Long Avenue fire, a second fire was reported. That fire happened at a vacant house on Chestnut Street.

The Chestnut Street house was surrounded by trees, requiring firefighters to pull hoses through the woods.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of both fires.
