Fourth water-main break upsets Ellwood City residents

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. — Several Ellwood City residents are upset because the same water line has broken four times in the past few years, they said.

Tim Klingensmith told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz that a geyser formed in his front yard Thursday night.

The 6-inch break on Border Street sent water shooting about 75 feet into the air.

"It was shooting better than Old Faithful," Klingensmith said.

Klingensmith said the water sent rocks and debris all over his house, roof and into the basement.

Neighbor Nathan Bell agreed that the problem is occurring too often.

"It's ridiculous; we just keep getting damaged. This is the fourth time that water main has broken," Bell said.

A spokesperson with Pennsylvania American Water said the line has outlived its usefulness and was probably installed in the 1920s. The spokesperson said crews will be sent out to fix the damage.

"I'm just tired of this. I work hard for my stuff and my home. I'm tired of it being ruined," Klingensmith said.
