Garfield woman makes it her mission to get kids school supplies

PITTSBURGH — A Garfield woman has made it her mission to make sure the kids in her neighborhood have the supplies they need.

"The parents in the community don't have the funds to support the children, so we feel like every little bit will help," said Cathy Bryant.

Bryant bought pencils, paper and folders to give to children in Garfield.

"We need to do something for the kids.  There's a bunch of violence over there.  That's all they know.  We're trying to show there's love," she said.

Bryant attends Morningside Church of God in Christ and said she'll give 100 kids the supplies on community day Aug. 30.

Bryant was not able to buy a lot of backpacks and is asking for help.

"We Christians, we love one another and this is what we do.  We try to help each other instead of trying to hurt each other," said Bryant.

Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic talked to the church's pastor who said he welcomes any donations for the school supply drive.  The best time to drop them off is Tuesday afternoon.
