Girl airlifted from scene of ATV accident in Butler County

PROSPECT, Pa. — A girl was flown to an area hospital Wednesday afternoon after an ATV accident in Butler County.

Officials said the incident was reported about noon Wednesday near Main Street in Prospect.

Emergency crews and firefighters were called in to help rescue the girl who struck a tree.

A second ambulance was required to transport the girl to the hospital after the ambulance that first responded got stuck in mud.

“We did have some difficulty getting the ambulance back out of the woods because of the quad riding back there causing a bunch of ruts and mud puddles. The grass wasn't cut so we did have some difficulty getting out,” said Nathan Blackwood, Prospect EMT.

A firefighter who assisted in the rescue told Channel 11 News that the girl was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The girl, whose name has not been released, is recovering from injuries at Allegheny General Hospital.
