Hempfield Township neighbors concerned about new cellphone tower plan

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Verizon Wireless plans to pitch a plan for a new cellphone tower to the zoning board in Hempfield Township.

The company wants to improve cellphone service in the area, but some fear it could come with a dangerous cost.

The plan is to put a tower on Middletown Road.   Concerned residents said it would be near an elementary school and day care.

John Henry plans to attend Tuesday night's hearing, saying he's concerned about potentially harmful radiation exposure.

"My wife has cancer and my sister had cancer," said Henry.

Other neighbors said they wouldn't enjoy the sight of the structures and their property values could be compromised.
