WHEELING, WV - A historic church has burned down in West Virginia.

The fire broke out Monday night at Saint John Church in Benwood, which is south of Wheeling.

WTOV reported  the fire started in the back of the church on the second floor, but it is unclear what started the flames.

There is a school attached to the building but the fire was contained to the 140-year-old church.
