Mom, boyfriend facing charges in Saltsburg boy's death

SALTSBURG, Pa. — A mother and her boyfriend are facing charges in the March death of a 16-month-old Saltsburg boy.

After several months of investigating, police released more details surrounding the child's death on Thursday.

According to police, Colby Jozefzcyk and his older sister both had fevers the day of his death and the couple put them in a cold bath.  Investigators said Colby's sister responded well to the bath, but Colby did not and started to fuss.

Police said that's when Shawn Anderson-Holmes put his hand over the boy's mouth and held it there. Police said Holmes kept his hand over Colby's mouth even after the boy stopped breathing.

"Holmes then placed an unresponsive, non breathing Colby back in his crib and proceeded to lay back down for the remainder of the night," said Trooper John Matchik.

Doctors who examined the boy said there were signs of long-term abuse. Anderson-Holmes is facing homicide charges. He is in the Indiana County Jail without bail.

The boy's mother, Kayla Lyons, was also arrested on aggravated assault charges. Investigators said there is evidence that she abused both children.
