Homicide detectives investigate fatal shooting of 24-year-old woman

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — Allegheny County homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in North Versailles.

According to police, Susan Hammond, 24, was found shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Patricia Lane Monday morning.

Investigators said the shooting happened just before midnight Sunday, but it took a neighbor about six hours to find her body lying between two cars.

Hammond’s cousin, Shay Lindsay, said Hammond recently started dating a new boyfriend.

“She was a loving person and got along with everybody. She would have helped anyone,” Lindsay said. “I’m not understanding why something like this could happen so unexpected.”

Authorities said police K-9 dogs have been brought in to assist with the investigation and try to find the weapon or killer's trail.
