Inmate dies while being transferred to Allegheny County Jail

PITTSBURGH — An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday for an inmate who died on his way back to the Allegheny County Jail.

Officials said 46-year-old Larry Reitz of White Oak was being returned to the jail Monday night when he fell and hit his head after stepping out of a sheriff's van.

Reitz had been hospitalized for the past few weeks, officials said.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Reitz was awaiting a preliminary hearing on trespassing and burglary charges.
