Inmate flees on foot after visit to local hospital

PITTSBURGH — A search is underway for a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections inmate who fled on foot following a visit to an area hospital.

State police said Angel DeJesus was discharged from UPMC Mercy Hospital on Friday. Investigators said DeJesus ran away on foot before getting in a car meant to take him back to the Renewal Community Corrections Center.

Officials said DeJesus was serving time for robbery, and has an extensive violent criminal history.

DeJesus is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Police said he has tattoos on his chest that say, “Carmon & Ramon.” Officers said he also has a tattoo on his left arm with the name, “Jay.”
