Jewelry store guard stops man accused of stealing from Shadyside pharmacy

PITTSBURGH - A jewelry store security guard was able to stop a man accused of stealing from a Shadyside pharmacy Friday afternoon.

Mike Blake, a guard at Henne Jewelry, noticed two people run from the nearby Rite Aid on Walnut Street and his instincts as a retired police officer took over. While one of the men got away, Blake caught up with the other man, Shawn Gent, and held him until police arrived.

Gent is facing a charge for retail theft.

Police said $750 worth of merchandise was recovered.
