Gregory Johns, 46, of Worthington; Alex Davis, 21, of McGrann and Francis Danahey Jr., 27, of Verona, were pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
All three died from blunt force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen.
Armstrong County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Bellas said the initial impact occurred between a Chrysler 200 sedan driven by Johns and a Subaru Outback driven by Davis.
State police said one of the vehicles was traveling in the wrong direction when the initial head-on collision occurred.
Francis Danahey was a passenger in Davis' vehicle, along with Michael Danahey, 26, of Kittanning, said Bellas. Michael Danahey was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital "with what appeared to be severe injuries."
State police are investigating which vehicle was traveling the wrong way and if alcohol was involved, the coroner's office said.
Both occupants of the third vehicle involved in the accident, a Dodge Caravan, were taken to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
