PITTSBURGH - A local Marine will be awarded a Silver Star Medal Monday for his bravery during an attack in Afghanistan.
Sgt. David Gerardi, of Coraopolis, was on patrol in June 2011 when his platoon was ambushed. He was able to help his fellow trooper escape.
The Silver Star is the third highest military decoration for valor.
