Man shot overnight during Aliquippa break-in

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A man was critically injured in a shooting early Saturday in Aliquippa, city police said.

Police responded to a report of a break-in in progress at a home in the 1800 block of Main Street around 3:20 a.m., according to police Det. Sgt. Steven L. Roberts. While responding, emergency dispatchers reported that a shot was fired at the home.

When officers arrived, they said the person trying to break into the home was gone. Within a few moments, Roberts said, a man arrived at the city police department, about 2 miles away, with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and torso.

Police believe the man who was shot was involved in the break-in.

Roberts said the man, who wasn't identified, was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday afternoon. The man was expected to survive, Roberts added.

No charges had been filed in the incident as of Saturday afternoon while police continued to investigate.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Aliquippa police at 724-375-6682.
