McKeesport family believes house fire is suspicious

McKEESPORT, Pa. — The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that displaced a McKeesport family Monday morning.

Officials said the flames were first reported at Renea and Stanley Mitchell’s Abraham Street home around 3 a.m.

“I had come down and seen flames and smoke, so I rushed up to get my husband and children and we got out the door. It was just a ball of flames,” Renea Mitchell said.

The Mitchells safely escaped the blaze, but said they are suspicious about the cause.

“Ain’t no way in the world the porch catch on fire,” Stanley Mitchell said.

Flames charred the home’s back porch and melted siding on the house. The family’s belongings were destroyed.

“Everybody made it out. We lost everything, but that’s material. We can replace all of that,” Renea Mitchell said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the Mitchells with food, clothing and shelter.
