Mother accused of having sex with son's 15-year-old friend appears in court

SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A mother accused of having a sexual relationship with one of her son’s 15-year-old friends faced a judge Wednesday in Sharpsburg.

Investigators said Susan Sundo, 45, met the boy while she was the head of Sharpsburg’s recreation center

County police arrested Sundo on Jan. 8 on charges of corruption of a minor, statutory sexual assault and related felonies, accusing her of carrying on the sexual relationship for six months.

Sundo’s preliminary hearing on Wednesday was postponed because her attorney, David J. Shrager, said he needs more time to review text messages that the prosecutors said they have.

“Ms. Sundo is an exemplary citizen. She is 45 years old and has never had any contact with the law whatsoever. She is an ordinary, everyday housewife,” Shrager said.

Sundo left the courtroom Wednesday wearing sunglasses and didn’t answer any of Channel 11’s Dave Bondy’s questions.

“She is very distraught with these circumstances,” Shrager said about his client, a mother of three. “The families were all very close prior to this. Her children were very good friends, and this is upsetting.”

Sundo volunteered at the Sharspburg Recreation Center and for a youth baseball league. Authorities said they’re looking into the possibility that there could be more alleged victims.

Before delaying the case until March 27, the judge told Sundo that she wasn’t allowed to have any contact with the alleged victim.
