Neighbor armed with shotgun chases down suspected store burglar in Fayette County

FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — A man in Markleysburg, Fayette County, said he chased down a suspected burglar at his neighborhood mom and pop store.

Richard Alicastro said he saw a man inside of the Markleysburg Country Store early Wednesday morning and knew he didn't belong there.

"I grabbed the shotgun and headed over. He seen me coming and tried to get out pretty quick. He threw a garbage can through the window and jumped out the window," Alicastro said.

After, Alicastro said he came face-to-face with the man, pointed his gun at him and told him to stop.

"He first put his hands up and I had my gun up. He said, 'Don't shoot' and that was it and put his hands down and took off running," said Alicastro.

He said he took off running after the man, but the burglar got away.

Workers at the store said the man didn't get away with anything, but dropped a back with $2,700 worth of cigarettes in it while escaping.

Alicastro said he is good friends with the owner of the store and said he never thought twice about jumping in to help.

The store does have surveillance cameras and police are reviewing the footage. So far, no arrests have been made.
