Owner: Neighbor saves dog attacked by another dog in Green Tree

GREEN TREE, Pa. — A dog was attacked by another dog while running with its owner in Green Tree this week.

The mixed breed, named Sam, just had surgery to get the lacerations in her abdomen cleaned up and put back together.

Sore, scared and skittish, the 5-month-old dog just got back from the animal hospital.

"Her jaw was shattered so we had to take her to a specialist and they wired her jaw shut and took the teeth that were broken and dead," said Sam's owner.

A big black dog charged at Sam, the owner said.

"It caught ahold of the bottom of her leg and was just ripping her leg.  Her abdomen starting rip open, and it honestly looked like her leg was going to rip off," the owner said.

A spokeswoman for the city of Pittsburgh told Channel 11 the dog that went after Sam belonged to a Pittsburgh police officer.  Channel 11's Courtney Brennan confirmed this was the second time the officer's dog attacked an animal in that neighborhood.

Sam's owner said several people saw the attack.  One of them tried to pull the officer's dog off Sam.

"The dog just jumped right back over and went right back at her, so finally he just tackled it and laid on it," said the owner.

Animal control took the officer's dog and put it down.

"She would definitely not be alive if it wasn't for that neighbor," said the owner.
