NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. - New Kensington police are searching for a Cadillac sedan allegedly stolen during an armed home invasion-style robbery Saturday morning.

Detective Sgt. Robert Deringer said a man and woman sleeping in a second-floor bedroom at 518 Third Ave. were awakened shortly before 8 a.m. by a man pointing a handgun at them.

Deringer said at least two people, and as many as four, searched the house, rifling through drawers, stealing a flat-screen television, removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the male victim's pants and leaving in his 2006 blue Cadillac STS sedan.

The couple living in the house, located in an alley between Industrial Boulevard and Fourth Avenue in Parnassus, were not injured.

They were forced to keep pillows and blankets over their heads and didn't see anyone other than the first man with the gun and a bandanna over his face, Deringer said.

The robbers apparently entered through a bathroom window.

Deringer said the security department at the Allegheny Valley Hospital Outpatient Care Center reviewed the former hospital's surveillance cameras, which captured a car that may have been the Cadillac leaving the alley about 7:55 a.m.

Police reviewed the city-operated security cameras throughout town but the car wasn't spotted, Deringer said. The car had not been located by Saturday afternoon.

After the robbers left, the male victim fled to a friend's house several blocks away to call police, who were dispatched about 8:15 a.m.

Deringer said the female victim told police she had been assaulted earlier in the night at an unknown location and had only returned home from a hospital a few hours before the robbery. It was not known if the robbery was connected to her assault.

Deringer said the stolen Cadillac belongs to a Ridge Avenue man, but the male robbery victim had permission to drive it. Police believe the male victim had been staying with the woman, who rents the house, for about a month.
