New security procedures at North Allegheny includes ‘videophone equipment'

PITTSBURGH — The North Allegheny School District informed parents Thursday about new security procedures at the district’s buildings.

According to the letter, the school district will begin implementing new security protocols at the entrance to every facility beginning the week of Feb. 3.

“Videophone equipment has been installed outside every building to enable these new procedures to be put into place,” the letter said.

The new procedures include providing photo identification when entering a facility.

“Directions for entering every school building and District facility will be posted at building entrances to help you become accustomed with how the new procedures work,” the letter said.

In addition, the letter said only one visitor will be able to enter the building at a time during school hours.

“Each visitor will be buzzed into the main office upon identification via videophone,” the letter said. “Arrangements will be made for special events that require reservations or RSVP registration.”

Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic talked with some parents Friday who said their in favor of the extra security.

Below is the letter sent home to parents, in its entirety:

Dear Parents/Guardians of North Allegheny Students,

During the week of February 3-7, the North Allegheny School District will be implementing important new security protocols at the entrance to every District facility.  Videophone equipment has been installed outside every building to enable these new procedures to be put into place.

Directions for entering every school building and District facility will be posted at building entrances to help you become accustomed with how the new procedures work.  When you plan to come to our schools or buildings, please bring photo identification and follow the directions for entry carefully.

You may wish to allow some extra time in your travel schedule, as only one visitor may now enter a building at a time during school hours.  Each visitor will be buzzed into the main office upon identification via videophone. Arrangements will be made for special events that require reservations or RSVP registration.

Please watch for more information about these new building entrance protocols in District publications and on the website. We will appreciate everyone's cooperation as we move forward with the implementation of this additional security effort Districtwide.

Sincerely,

The North Allegheny School District
