Parkway North reopens following morning accidents

PITTSBURGH — A series of accidents Tuesday morning forced officials to temporarily close the inbound Parkway North (Interstate 279), leading to extreme traffic delays. Icy conditions are believed to be responsible.

The closure was at the Perryville Interchange and lasted for approximately an hour before all regular lanes reopened. The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane remained closed for an additional 20 minutes or so before reopening. The HOV occupancy restriction was temporarily lifted.

Still, motorists should expect heavy residual delays.
