Phil Irwin, Chase d'Arnaud among Pirates cuts

BRADENTON, Fla. — The Pittsburgh Pirates made a round of cuts Friday afternoon before leaving for Tampa to play the New York Yankees.

Infielder Chase d'Arnaud and relievers Josh Kinney, Yao-Sun Yang, Jake Brigham and Cody Eppley were reassigned to minor league camp.

In addition, pitcher Phil Irwin and infielders Chris McGuiness and Brent Morel were optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates General Manager Neal Huntington said left-hander Francisco Liriano continues to feel some tightness in his left groin.

Liriano left Thursday night's game in the sixth inning due to the injury. He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
