Pitt women's basketball goes pink for breast cancer awareness

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt women’s basketball team hosted Pink the Petersen Saturday as they took on Big East rival Georgetown.

The Lady Panthers teamed up with UPMC and Susan G. Komen for the Cure for the sixth annual event.

The team dressed in pink to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, a cause special to head coach Agnes Berenato, who lost her mother and grandmother to breast cancer.

"I think part of my job as an educator, I know I’m a coach, but part of my job is I can, I think, bring awareness to different causes that maybe other people can’t. I think that’s part of what I do," Berenato said.

Pitt donated $1 for every ticket sold to help raise breast cancer awareness.

Pitt lost to Georgetown 72-70.
