Pittsburgh Fire Dept. taking extra precautions during winter storm

PITTSBURGH — In light of the major snowfall expected Sunday into Monday, the Pittsburgh Fire Department is taking extra steps to ensure they are prepared to respond to calls.

Due to the volume of snow expected, fire engine tires are being fitted with chains.

And in the event of down trees, the trucks have been equipped with chainsaws.

More shovels have also been added to the equipment available to fire crews.

"Safety is first for the public, as well as our workers. We're taking these precautions to make sure that we can do the job of delivering needed city services at all times," said Sonya Toler, public information officer for the Department of Public Safety.
