Pittsburgh region sees rare population growth

PITTSBURGH (AP) — For the first time in decades, more people are moving to the Pittsburgh region than leaving.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, Census data show the seven-county region's population rose by nearly 4,000 to 2.3 million over the past two years, while real estate firms say they've helped hundreds of families relocate to the area.

Experts cite the Marcellus Shale gas boom and Pittsburgh's transformation from a steel-industry town into a center for technology, health care and banking.
