Plum soldier shot while serving in Afghanistan

PLUM, Pa. — A local soldier is recovering after being wounded in Afghanistan over the weekend.

Sgt. Shane Stipancic, of Plum, is a member of the Army's 101st Airborne Division

Officials said over the weekend, Stipancic was shot twice in the back while on a routine mission. He is being treated at a military hospital in Germany.

"It was a numbing feeling. I can't explain getting the initial phone call of Shane being shot," said Stipancic's mother Tina DeSalvo. "I can't even explain it."

DeSalvo said she talked to her son on Monday and that he is eager to get well and return to his unit.
