Police: Clerk in on robbery at Cranberry Giant Eagle

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police believe a clerk was in on the robbery at the Cranberry Giant Eagle.

On Monday night, calls poured into our newsroom about a man who walked into the grocery store and robbed the cashier at the hot food register.

Officers quickly identified the suspect and then found out that there was really no robbery.

Police said the cashier admitted it wasn't a robbery, and he no longer works at the store.

When Channel 11 told shoppers it was a planned theft and not an armed robbery, shoppers felt safer.

"I was shocked.  This doesn't happen here," said shopper Jen Colville.

Police haven't released the suspects' names but they said they'll be charged with theft.
