Police: Drunken crossing guard arrested in Sharpsburg

SHARPSBURG, Pa. — A school crossing guard in Sharpsburg was arrested Thursday after police said she was drunk on the job.

Investigators said 51-year-old Patricia Gross was nearly passed out when they arrived on Middle Street.

Officers said they were called to the area after someone reportedly witnessed Gross slurring her words as she attempted to assist children across the street.

Police said Gross was outside of a neighbor's home with a glass of vodka when she was taken into custody.

Gross faces several charges including disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, endangering the welfare of children and public drunkenness.

Officers said Gross swore at them as she was taken into custody. She was arraigned early Friday morning and is expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing next week.
