Police: Hit-and-run suspect was DUI with 2 kids in car

OAKDALE, Pa. — Police arrested a hit-and-run suspect Wednesday night accused of driving drunk with two young children in the car.

Authorities said Raymond Durkalski Jr., 41, was drunk when he rear-ended a car at an Oakdale intersection and fled the scene last Friday.

According to police, Durkalski’s girlfriend, Tracy Schilo, was in the car, as well as Schilo’s 9-year-old daughter and another girl.

“She said she was absolutely terrified,” the other girl’s mother said about the incident.

According to the girl’s mother, Durkalski dropped the girls off at McKee Elementary School about 30 minutes later. The girls were unharmed.

However, the girl’s mother said she didn’t know Durkalski was drunk when she let her daughter get in his car.

“I want him to go to jail for a long time. He endangered the life of my daughter. He could have killed her,” the girl’s mother said.

Durkalski was arrested Wednesday after dodging Oakdale police since the incident. Investigators said he has a history of DUI incidents and was driving without a valid driver’s license.

Authorities said they’ve also issued an arrest warrant for Schilo because they said she allowed the girls to get in a car with a drunken driver.

The victim of the hit-and-run wasn’t injured.
