Police investigating fight inside middle school bathroom caught on cellphone

WILKINSBURG, Pa — Authorities are investigating after a video of a fight inside a middle school bathroom appeared online.

According to police, the alleged incident happened inside the bathroom at Wilkinsburg Middle School Thursday.

Investigators said the fight, which was three students against one, lasted about three minutes and was caught on camera.

City officials said during a press conference Friday that they can’t confirm if any arrests have been made, but the school’s superintendent said proper disciplinary action has been taken.

Channel 11’s Brittny McGraw talked with the victim’s mother, Nickcole Whitfield.

“I was angry. I was hurt that I wasn’t able to be there to help him,” Whitfield said. “Every time he tried to get up, he kept getting pushed back down on the ground. They kept kicking him and nobody heard it. I don’t understand.”

According to Whitfield, her seventh-grade son has had problems with the students in the past, and she thinks he’s constantly bullied.

“I want to know where the security was. This was 10 or 15 minutes,” Whitfield said. “His face was swollen and bruised.”

Wilkinsburg police Chief Ophelia Coleman called the cellphone video horrific.

“We will bring those responsible for this heinous crime to justice,” Coleman said.

Officials said the incident happened during a class change, and because of the noise in the hallways, teachers and security may not have heard what was going on.

Police told Channel 11’s Alan Jennings that when the attacker will likely be charged with assault.
