Police: Man aiming at car thief accidentally shoots son

PITTSBURGH — A man accidentally shot his son in the shoulder while trying to stop a car thief Thursday morning, according to police.

Authorities said the father and son ran outside onto Central Avenue in the city’s Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood about 5 a.m. to try and stop a car thief.

According to police, the father was aiming at the thief, but shot his son. The son was taken to an area hospital, and officials said he is expected to be OK.

The father's and son’s names have not been released.

The thief got away with the car, investigators said.
