WILKINSBURG, Pa. - Police are using surveillance video in their investigation of a break-in and burglary at a Wilkinsburg store early Tuesday morning.
According to police, Penn & Wood Restaurant & Tobacco on Wood Street was broken into just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski reported that the surveillance video shows a man throw a 10-pound rock at a window and enter Ahsen Ansari’s family-owned store.
Kaminski said the video shows the man unsuccessfully try to break into the cash register.
“He walked right to my register and threw it on the floor,” Ansari said.
Before leaving, the man stole a box loaded with cartons of cigarettes, police said. The box’s estimated value was more than $2,000.
“This store is my bread. I feed my family with that, so it hurt me a lot,” Ansari said.
Investigators told Kaminski that a few days earlier another business nearby was also burglarized. Ansari said he’s hoping police will catch whoever is responsible for the burglaries.
“Go get a job and do something with your life. It’s not right taking somebody’s money like that. I work hard for my money,” Ansari said.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact police.
