Police: Man made Wal-Mart bomb threat, kept shopping

GREENVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A man is jailed on charges he made a bomb threat at a western Pennsylvania Wal-Mart, but kept right on shopping.

James Burns, of Greenville, remained jailed Monday on charges including risking a catastrophe and terroristic threats.

Police in Hempfield Township, near Greenville, say Burns claimed there was a bomb in the store about 3 p.m. Saturday. He then quickly bought a couple of items and left, jumping into another vehicle but leaving the van he arrived in parked at the store.

Township police Sgt. Joshua McCloskey says Monday that police took the threat seriously and evacuated the store -- finding nothing.

He says police were concerned because Burns, 58, switched vehicles and didn't stay in the store long after the threat.

Explaining the extra precautions, McCloskey says, "You never know."
