Police say thieves are targeting packages left on porches

PITTSBURGH — Police throughout the Pittsburgh area are warning people about thieves stealing packages left on porches.

Earlier this week, a victim in the city’s Regent Square area reported a package stolen from her porch.

“I’m kind of surprised it doesn’t happen more,” Regent Square resident Erin Kelly said. “Most people are away from their homes during the day and things get delivered and just sit there for a long time.”

Police said the best idea is to have packages signed for. If you can’t do that, have the delivery driver leave the package between doors, or ask them to leave it on a back porch that isn’t visible from the road.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity or has information on the incident is asked to contact police.
