UNIONTOWN, Pa. - Police were called to a Fayette County neighborhood Tuesday night for the report of a toddler wandering a busy street.
A customer at a rental car lot in Uniontown spotted the toddler walking near West Main Street and alerted police.
Authorities said they went door-to-door looking for the parents of the girl, 2, before finding her father, Shawn Hodgetts Jr., 29, intoxicated on the back porch of a home.
According to police, the girl’s mother had dropped the girl off at Hodgetts’ home before going to work.
Hodgetts, who was passed out when police arrived, was arrested. Officers said they also found drug paraphernalia nearby.
“To be honest with you, I’m really shocked that there would be a parent drunk in the afternoon and letting a toddler run around,” neighbor Beth Domonkos said.
The girl was placed in the custody of her grandmother until her mother got off of work. Children and Youth Services is investigating.
