Police: Woman shoots husband inside home with 2 children

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — Police said two children were inside a Washington County home Tuesday night when a woman allegedly shot her husband.

Investigators said the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on Clubhouse Circle in South Strabane Township.

Police said they arrested 26-year-old Latasha Stapp and charged her with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

Officials said Tyler Stapp, 27, was shot several times and was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. His condition has not been released.

According to the police report, Stapp shot her husband four times while they were in their apartment and then again in the parking lot.

"A weapon was recovered. She did indicate that she was the shooter and did indicate that the gun we recovered was the gun used. It was a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun," said South Strabane police Det. Kenneth Torboli.

Torboli said the couple's children, ages 5 and 7, were not hurt.

Neighbors said they know the couple has had recent problems.

"I am shocked. I am because they are nice. He is a nice guy. He just wants to do the right thing for his kids and she went psycho on him," said neighbor Iliana Albritton.

The children are now in the custody of Children Youth and Family services and are expected to be placed with family members on Wednesday.
