Pouncey apologizes after picture surfaces of him wearing ‘Free Hernandez' hat

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey apologized Monday after photographs leaked over the weekend showing him and his twin brother wearing “Free Hernandez” hats at a Miami nightclub.

Maurkice and Mike Pouncey were teammates of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez at the University of Florida. Hernandez is charged with the first-degree murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.

Pouncey sent out the following Tweet Monday morning regarding the situation, “I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate, and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation. I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions.”

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, a Steelers spokesman said the organization has no comment about the photos.
