JEANNETTE, Pa. - A puppy was rescued from a storm sewer in Jeannette.
A German shepherd got lost in the sewers Monday, and firefighters and Public Works crews pitched in to help.
The dog ducked in and out of tunnels, drains and pipes.
Fire officials called the city engineer for a map of the sewer system.
“We had to figure out a way where we could scare the dog out. Garbage men cornered it,” said Fire Chief Joseph Matijevic.
The garbage men lured the dog out of the sewer system using treats. He was brought to safety around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
“It was a real good coordinated effort between my firefighters, the city employees, the city garbage men, the city engineer, the city foreman and the Westmoreland County Animal Rescue Team,” said Matijevic.
