ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. - An alert bike cop caught a juvenile who police said was stealing from a store at Ross Park Mall on Saturday.
Ross Township police said the officer chased the suspect into a wooded area near McIntyre Elementary School, where the juvenile was caught.
There is no word yet on what the juvenile took or which store the merchandise came from.
Ross Park Mall said it hired the bike cop after thieves stole several expensive handbags from the Louis Vuitton store on Thursday night around 8 p.m.
“There appears to be five in the group. The worker is distracted by a customer, they steal the purses and flee the area,” said Ross Township Police Detective Brian Kohlhepp.
Kohlhepp said the Louis Vuitton store is still taking inventory of about how many handbags were stolen and their value.
The Ross Park Mall released a statement that said, “Anytime an incident like this happens our first concern is for the safety of our customers and mall employees. We at Ross Park Mall are committed to providing a safe, quality shopping environment for our shoppers and retail tenants.”
Kohlhepp said there are witnesses who saw the car, and the police are following any leads. However, the Louis Vuitton store has not released its surveillance video to the police.
