Ross police seek two men involved in robbing popular Babcock Blvd. tavern

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Ross Township police said they're searching for two men who robbed a popular tavern on Babcock Boulevard early Friday morning.

Investigators said two white men broke into Kretzler's Tavern around 2:40 a.m. through a back door.

Officers said the men removed a 400-pound floor safe that contained thousands of dollars in cash inside and fled the area in a four-door car.

Police said they think the men may have been familiar with the bar since they knew exactly where the safe was located.

“It’s open to the public, so it makes you question if they were familiar with the building. Was it someone who has been there before or an old employee?” Ross Township police Detective Brian Kohlhepp said.

Investigators said the incident was caught on surveillance tape and they hope to use the video to identity the men involved.

Channel 11’s Jodine Costanzo reported Kretzler’s Tavern was also robbed in April 2011 when a hooded man stole cash from the register.
