Police hope new photo will lead to arrest of armored car slaying suspect

PITTSBURGH — Police have released a new photo of the man accused of killing his security guard partner and stealing more than $2 million from an armored car last month.

Investigators have been searching for Kenneth Konias Jr., 22, of Dravosburg since police said he shot and killed Michael Haines, 31, of East McKeesport and stole $2.3 million from a Garda Cash Logistics vehicle.

Haines' body was in the back of the truck found idling under a bridge in the Strip District on Feb. 28.

Konias is charged with criminal homicide, theft by unlawful taking and robbery. Authorities say they recovered about $275,000 left behind; including about $250,000 stashed under a car at the Dravosburg home he shared with his parents and about $24,000 found a day earlier at the grave of a family member.

Officials say Konias called friends and family after the killing, and asked one person about extradition laws in Canada and Mexico. The FBI added a poster of Konias to its Facebook page, and agents said they are getting tips about Konias from various cities. The case was also featured on America's Most Wanted.

Garda also is offering a $100,000 reward in the case.
