Several water main breaks reported throughout the area

PITTSBURGH — Crews are working to repair three separate water main breaks throughout the Channel 11 viewing area.

The first break was reported on Strauss Street on the North Side.

Channel 11’s Dave Bondy reported that water and mud forced the road to buckle.

Service has been shut off and water has stopped flowing; it's unknown how long the repairs will take.

Strauss Street will remain closed while crews work to fix the break. Traffic is being detoured onto North Charles Street, which wasn't affected.

Crews are also working to repair a break on Saltsburg Road in Plum.

Officials said the road will remain closed between Chavelle Court and O’Block Road for several hours while crews work to repair a large break in the 9400 block of the road.

“That road is really something. Like I said, it looks like an earthquake hit it,” Richard Moree, who woke up with no water because of the break, said. “You don’t realize it until you turn the spigot and nothing happens.”

The third break occurred on Midwood Avenue in Overbrook, and water was flowing onto Route 51.

The 10-inch break left about a dozen customers and businesses without water. Repairs are expected to be finished by Friday afternoon.
