BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. - Four people were killed in a shooting incident that injured three state police troopers in Blair County Friday morning.
The shooter, who has not been identified, shot two people in the driveway of a home as they were leaving to go Christmas shopping, police said.
“This person went to their driveway with a pistol, pointed at them and started shooting,” said Marie Brenneman, who identified herself as a cousin of one of the victims.
She said the shooter was a neighbor of the two male victims and “they were uneasy around him,” she said.
“It’s something that you just don’t think can happen to you, like what happened in Connecticut,” Charles Brenneman, another cousin of the victims, said.
Brenneman said he and Marie lost a cousin and a son-in-law in the shooting.
“They were leaving at the end driveway to go shopping and looked up and there was this guy standing there with a pistol. He just started shooting,” Charles Brenneman said.
Investigators said the shooter then drove to a nearby church and killed a woman.
The crime scene extended along at least one mile of Juniata Valley Road, which runs along the Juniata River, authorities said.
Channel 11’s Courtney Brennan reported that police said the shooter was mobile as he exchanged gunfire with officers when they arrived at the scene.
Officials said he used his vehicle to ram a police car during the chase.
Authorities said detectives eventually shot and killed the shooter near Geeseytown, Frankstown Township.
None of the troopers’ injuries are life-threatening, police said.
According to police, one was struck by glass after a bullet shattered the window of his police vehicle during the shootout.
Trooper Adam Reed said one trooper was shot but saved by his bulletproof vest.
Barbara and Bob Stoudnour, who live on Juniata Valley Road, said they returned from a shopping trip to find the roadway shut down.
“I don‘t know what we are going to find when we get home,” Bob Stoudnour said.
