Customers help nab purse snatching suspects at Squirrel Hill Giant Eagle

PITTSBURGH — A pair of men accused of stealing a woman's purse outside of a Squirrel Hill Giant Eagle Wednesday were quickly arrested thanks, in part, to vigilant customers.

Investigators said Eric Gordon and Christopher David stole the victim's purse around 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the store.

Police said several people witnessed the crime and wrote down the license plate of the car the robbers took off in.

One shopper said she thinks the robbers were casing the area.

"They are watching. They come out here to watch. They know where the money is," said one shopper.

Detectives heard the call and saw the getaway car at the intersection of Fifth and North Craig Street in Oakland.  According to police paperwork, the officers could see the woman's purse in the car.

After a short chase, the men were arrested. Officers said the help from witnesses is what led to the quick arrests.

Officers said they found a crack pipe in the car and that Gordon admitted to having a drug problem.
