State denies medical license to killer podiatrist

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania State Board of Podiatry has refused to reinstate the medical license of a western Pennsylvania doctor who served 10 years in prison after being convicted of killing his wife.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, the board noted that Long was denied parole four times and has shown a lack of remorse.

The 55-year-old doctor man was convicted of third-degree murder for suffocating his wife, Elaine, with a dry cleaning bag in October 1999.

Long contends she attacked him with a knife and he fell on top of her unconscious, at which point the bag covered her face.

He was released from prison on July 3, 2012 after fulfilling the maximum on his five- to 10-year prison sentence.

Long now works as a mason and lives in Summerhill, Cambria County.
