NEW STANTON, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police have released surveillance video of an armed robbery at a New Stanton hotel early Monday morning in hopes that the public can help identify the man involved.
According to police, a man dressed in a black trench coat entered the Comfort Inn hotel through a stairwell and held the night clerk at gunpoint in a back office.
“He somehow gains access to the hotel through a side door that appeared to be unlocked. Once inside, he rushed toward the officer displaying a handgun,” Pennsylvania State Police trooper Steve Limani said.
Investigators said the robber got away with $239 and was seen running toward a nearby parking lot.
“For the clerk who was working there, to all of a sudden have a person just randomly show up and be aggressive in a quick manner, pointing a firearm directly at them, as you see through the video, had to be a very frightening experience,” Limani said.
Limani said no hotel guests were in the lobby at the time of the robbery. He also credited the clerk for being calm under pressure.
“He complied with the request and that’s all we can ask for someone. No momentary amount is worth your life,” Limani said.
The robber was described as a white male in his 20s. He was wearing a black trench coat, a black hat, a black bandana across his face and had black gloves, police said.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact police.
