Feds indict 14 in Pittsburgh gang-based drug ring

EAST HILLS, Pa. — Fourteen alleged street gang members or their associates are being rounded up in what federal prosecutors are calling a major gang-related heroin ring in Pittsburgh.

Details are expected to be announced later Thursday into the alleged gang known as the East Hills Bloods, named for the section of the city with which they're associated.

Eight related indictments were being unsealed into the investigation.

Federal prosecutors planned to ask that the suspects be jailed pending trial. That will happen in a series of detentions hearings before a federal magistrate which are expected to begin Friday.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh said all but one of the suspects was already in custody. Some of the suspects will face charges of using firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking.
