Suspicious packages reported in Brentwood, on Route 51

BRENTWOOD, Pa. — Route 51 was closed in both directions in the city’s Overbrook neighborhood while crews investigated a suspicious package late Thursday morning.

Chopper 11 flew over the scene of a large police presence in the area of East Sawmill Run Road and Maytide Street about 11:30 p.m.

Heavy traffic delays were reported in the area while crews investigated. So far, there’s no word what was inside the package.

Meanwhile, a suspicious package forced a Brentwood bank to evacuate Thursday morning.

Officials said customers were asked to leave and the bomb squad was called in after the report of a suspicious package outside the First National Bank on Towne Square Way.

The bomb squad investigated the package and eventually came to the realization that it was a box containing toner cartridges.

No injuries were reported.
